Welcome to the Healthy High Desert Initiative

Our mission is to increase accessibility to quality health resources in our underserved High Desert community.

Project Overview

The High Desert, CA boasts a population of over 576,000 residents and counting. Yet, we are considered to be a medically underserved region, designated by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) as “having too few primary care providers.” Our community faces systemic hurdles that make it difficult to find quality medical care locally, often resorting to driving over 35 miles to San Bernardino, Loma Linda, or Riverside to seek a specialist physician. We want to do our small part to change this and give back to the community that has given so much to all of us.

Goals of our Organization

Creating a Brighter and Healthier High Desert
  1. Free community health screenings: At community events like farmers markets and fairs, we provide free 5-minute health screenings for BMI, blood pressure, and blood glucose, followed by lifestyle consultations and in some cases, referrals to resources in local health systems including SB County Health Centers and the IEHP Community Resource Center.

  2. Health education events: Coordinate with smaller venues like community centers to deliver presentations on various health-related topics including hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and child development.

  3. Health career presentations: Work with local high schools and Victor Valley College to host informational presentations and panels so students can be inspired to pursue health professions including nursing, pre-med, and pre-health careers.
